At Uncommon Goods, our values shape how we work, the products we offer, and the impact we strive to make in the world.
Our 7 Guiding Principles shape how we work together, make decisions, and grow as a company. Together, they help keep us aligned and focused on what matters most.
We Are a Force for Good
This is why Uncommon Goods exists. We use our business to help improve the world.
We Make Each Other Better
We believe working together produces a better outcome than working alone. We work as one team that helps each other succeed.
We Are Open-Minded
We approach everything—each other, new ideas, successes, and challenges—with an open, curious, and positive mindset.
We Are Always Learning
We know we won’t have all the answers. Our biggest successes come from staying humble, curious, and open to learning.
We Own Our Roles
Each of us understands why we’re here and the part we play. We’re as committed to the success of Uncommon Goods as we are to our own.
We Are Independent
We encourage individual expression, whether the view is popular or not. Our ownership structure allows us to run our business the same way.
We Are Building for the Long-Term
We are patient and consistent in our desire to build a great company over time. This helps us navigate challenges and stay focused on what matters most.
Our Commitment to Sustainability & Impact
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC↗)
As an online retailer and catalog company, we recognize that printed materials use natural resources. We work to reduce our environmental impact by:
- Expanding our online business
- Limiting catalog mailings
- Printing catalogs on recycled paper, most of which contains at least 30% post-consumer waste, or paper sourced from FSC-certified forests.
Better to Give
In 2001, we launched Better to Give↗, our charitable giving program that helps support nonprofit organizations around the world through customer purchases. Since launching the program, we’ve donated more than $3 million to nonprofit organizations.
B Corporation
In 2007, Uncommon Goods became a founding member of B Corporation↗, an organization that helps consumers better understand the social and environmental impact of their purchases.
Certified B Corporations meet high standards of:
- Social and environmental performance
- Public transparency
- Legal accountability
B Corps are part of a global movement using business as a force for good and working toward a more inclusive and sustainable economy.
A Message from Our Founder
As founder of Uncommon Goods, I am committed to our sustainability efforts and welcome any ideas or feedback↗ you may have.
